New community pools for sport and leisure

The Pacific Beach community is full of surfers and swimmers and those who enjoy the water. Surprisingly the closest community pools are in Claremont and La Jolla. Adding a competition size pool in the heart of Pacific Beach and Mission Bay will provide a great place for locals to exercise and compete. Pacific Beach and Mission Bay will be able to host major athletic competitions such as triathlons. Adding a new lagoon pool with water play features will be a great destination for local families and visitors.

A Home Pool for MBHS Swim and Water Polo Teams

San Diego Unified School District has a “Pools for Schools” programe with a goal to get a pool for every high school. Mission Bay High School has thriving swim and water polo teams. Each team has gained prominence and prestige. Adding a new home pool just a short walk across Rose Creek from campus will be a center point of pride for the school. The aquatic center will serve as host for high school meets and games - welcoming the community to cheer on the Bucs! A nearby pool will be a resource encouraging more students to participate in water sports and allowing pool based physical education.

There is a natural synergy between community and visitor swimming needs and the pool needs for high school sports programs. Community and visitors would typically want to use the pools in the summer and fall. High school aquatic sports are winter and spring.

A Destination for Family Fun

The Aquatic center can also include a lagoon pool with water features and amenities for relaxing and enjoyment. Possible features could include hot tubs, water slides, splash play structures, fountains and islands. Relaxing on the pool deck will be aided by the nearby restaurant providing refreshments. Those using the nearby tennis courts and golf course may also enjoy using the pool afterward. Visitors camping nearby will be able to use the pool as part of the joint use agreement. The aquatic center will be at the heart of the Mission Bay Gateway.
